Founded in 2009, Moon Spider Studio is a blossoming studio based out of the tropical paradise that is Key Biscayne, Florida. The President of the studio, Loris Malek, is convinced that Moon Spider’s mix of young blood and experienced developers just want to make fun games. With backgrounds at studios such as Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks, the team won’t have a hard time producing lush visuals to go along with the fun. They take their first crack at it with Harold, a beautifully animated sidescrolling puzzler.
Harold is a scrawny long shot in a competition of adventurous obstacle courses. His competitors are more athletic, faster and downright more fit to win. That is where Gabe, Harold’s guardian angel, comes into play. As Harold stumbles through the puzzle-style races, Gabe must use his higher power to both help Harold and detour his competitors. As Gabe, the player will interact with the environments in a number of ways—including raising bridges, cutting ropes, and pounding down walls to change the course for the competitors. Harold will collect halos along the way, allowing Gabe to light the proverbial fire under Harold’s feet with some angelic speed-boosting lightning bolts. The levels increase in complication as Harold advances through the races, so Gabe will have to use forward thinking and high-level hand eye coordination to keep his little buddy ahead of the pack.
Harold won’t be hitting shelves or digital distribution channels until 2013, but attendees of this years PAX Prime can stop by Moon Spider Studio’s booth to check out the game so far.
