Motorola CLIQ gets firmware update, not Android 2.1

T-Mobile announced today that the CLIQ, Motorola’s mid-range QWERTY Android slider, is now eligible to receive a patch that is intended to improve the performance of the device.

In addition to device performance, the so-called 1.4.8 software update is also designed to improve battery life, as well as the responsiveness of widgets. T-Mobile says that the OTA update will begin at midnight EDT, and users will be alerted via an on-screen notification when it is downloaded and ready to install.

Great news!

The latest MOTOROLA CLIQ™ software update (1.4.8) will be released to all customers tonight around 9 pm PST. To receive the software update you can either wait for your on-screen notification or manually check for the update.

The 1.4.8 software update for MOTOROLA CLIQ™ provides several fixes to known issues along with the following enhancements:

  • Improved battery life
  • Improved software performance and stability
  • Improved home screen
  • Improved widget response
  • Decrease in ‘Force Close’ error messages
  • Added support of .WMA and .WAV media files

Note: This is not the Android 2.1 upgrade

QCH Crap... I was a beta tester for this patch. I downloaded it last week. Been rather good. The "End Call" button was moved to help reduce the accidental hang ups. The touch screen is now less touchy. It requires a bit more force to type/press buy it is much more accurate.
