Motorola Cliq rooted

Motorola Cliq rooted

A forum user going by the name TheDudesAndroid over at ModMyMoto announced yesterday that he has successfully rooted the Motorola Cliq.

The five-step process currently reflashes the phone with an unlocked Android 1.5 ROM, but it does open the gate for future ports of Android 2.0 or 2.1.

As a final note, TheDude warns against ROMs modded for other phones and addresses the DEXT:

Cyanogen roms WILL NOT RUN on your phone yet. DO NOT TRY TO FLASH G1 roms, hero roms, etc yet. This does not make your phone ready to flash update.zips I will be creating custom ROM’s with improvements upon 1.5 and hopefully a 2.1 port.

I wanted to wait till it was ready..but alas.

DEXT Users: This will work for your phone, the radio is not flashed as part of the update, HOWEVER, your internet pay not work. I didn’t setup the proper APN’s. This update is geared toward Cliq, but I will be releasing a proper dexted update based on the orange update.zip

AlexDeGruven Nice... How long do we think it will take before handset manufacturers realize that people WILL find a way to do what THEY want on/with/to a device and stop locking crap down?

I rooted my Moment as soon as I found I was able. Haven't done much/anything with it yet except for removing a couple of annoying apps that I'll never use. But still, even with my lack of interest in running customized ROMs, etc, as soon as I was able, I took control of my device.

    Learn, companies. Learn.

MachineDog I'm hoping that if the rumors are true about the Nexus One that Google is doing it because they are pissed off about the way the carriers and manufacturer's are locking down the ecosystem, and that they are releasing the phone with an unlocked bootloader.

Howdy, Stranger!
