I will preface this notice with the following statement… I love my CLIQ—most of the time. I treat my Android 1.5-based phone with care and respect knowing that she will be so much better when Android 2.1 is released. At first I was hurt that I bought my first high end phone only days after it was released by T-Mobile and within weeks the Verizon Droid was released. I got over it until I found out that the CLIQ was considered a second class phone by Motorola. Immediately I began researching if my CLIQ was capable of being upgraded to Android 2.0. I was comforted by the rumor that Motorola was working on rolling out 2.0 or 2.1.
After several weeks Motorola was a bit sketchy on details of when the upgrade would be available, but everything pointed to the second quarter of 2010. Then Motorola began releasing statements. We reported several times on the schedule for CLIQ’s upgrades, and each time Motorola reaffirmed a second quarter 2010 release. According to my advanced math skills, the second quarter means somewhere after April 1 and before June 30. Guess what today is… July 1st. I still do not have Android 2.1. This is one sad puppy.
Just before I was about to commit Seppuku, Motorola posted a statement in their forums regarding the scheduled update. Would THIS be the beginning of a rekindling of my love for my CLIQ? Would this force me to take the day off to play with all the new features?
For those asking for an update regarding a software upgrade on CLIQ in the U.S., we’ve made a decision to take more time on the release to optimize the experience in some key areas. We will continue to work to deliver it as soon as possible and apologize that we have been unable to provide an upgrade to these users in Q2 as planned.
We are working hard to provide an upgrade to Android 2.1 as soon as we can. Our consumers’ experience is our first priority and we will provide an upgrade when we can deliver the best possible user experience.
Take more time? What, wasn’t 7 months enough to learn how to port over Android 2.1? Forum member “sofaires” responded with this statement: “So now is when we can? No time deadline or any sort of information more precisely? What key areas? Why wait to the last minute to say this?”
Forum member “LordAposno” added this: “I am wondering why this state-of-the-art phone was released with an outdated OS? Why do we have 1.5 when every other Android phone has 1.6?”
The last quote comes from forum member “alank009”. “The cake is a lie.” And here I sit with my fork and empty plate awaiting my desert.
