Mushkin intros Volta and Joule power supplies

Mushkin yesterday unveiled the Volta and Joule power supply lineups designed to cater to budget-conscious builders and enthusiasts, respectively.

Starting with budget-conscious users, the Volta series comes in 500W ($80) and 600W ($90) flavors and offers a single 12V rail. In terms of features, the Volta includes a pair of 6+2-pin PCIe connectors for CrossFire or SLI, and modular cabling.

The Joule series, meanwhile, comes in 1000W ($225) or 1200W ($250) varieties and offers a whopping six 12V rails that, according to Mushkin, can be automatically combined by the unit’s electronics to respond to the demands of multiple GPUs. Rounding out the list of features, Joule units also include six 6+2 PCIe connectors and modular cabling.

“Our new PSUs provide value and enthusiast power solutions. The value conscious builders will be pleased with the output levels and connector options of the Volta series,” said Mushkin Director of Product Development. “The Joule units will fuel overclocked components with clean power; allowing the most hardcore enthusiasts to reach new speeds and levels of stability. Both units distribute their power responsibly, with up to 85% efficiency.”

Despite an efficiency claim of “up to 85%,” we could not determine if any of these units have been awarded an 80 PLUS certification level; Mushkin makes no mention of such an award on their website, and the power supplies are not listed in ECOS’ 80 PLUS-certified power supply database.

Volta and Joule power supplies can be purchased directly from Mushkin’s online store starting today.
