My Anacapa don’t want none unless you got a job, son…

So there’s this guy. Let’s just, for discussions’ sake, say his name is Biswahoman Pani. Let’s pretend for a minute that he works for a big company. It could be any company. Let’s say it’s Intel, for example. Okay, work with me here for a second: Mr. Pani has a wife. She works for the same company, but across the country in another branch. That’s pretty far away for a married couple. He asks his employer if maybe they can reassign his wife to his branch so that they can, you know.. Actually live together. They say “yes”, they’re a nice company after all.

Okay, now pretend Mr. Pani gets a job with his company’s biggest competitor. Since we’re using Intel in our story, that would be AMD. Alright – so Pani gets a job with AMD but of course doesn’t tell Intel that. He lies, and says he’s doing something totally unrelated – like, I don’t know.. Working for a hedge fund or something.

Now, in Pani’s job with Intel, he doesn’t normally need access to Intel’s top-secret cutting edge technical drawings, datasheets, and other information about some future product. However, in the days right up to his resignation, he accesses their internal documents system (called Anacapa) several times. For, you know.. no reason. Why would you need CAD drawings of a future CPU or some other product at a hedge fund, MIRITE?

Oh wait. Wait, he lied to his employer and they FIND OUT. Yeah, turns out he starts work at his new company, AMD, WHILE he’s still on the payroll at Intel. WOOPSIE!

They ask him: Why did you take these classified trade secrets? He says, “Oh, I wanted to teach my wife how to do her job better” (disregarding the fact that she doesn’t work with that kind of information either). And he says that he was just helping her get ready for the big cross-country move.

Wait WHAT?

Yeah, so pretend all this really happened. Do you think AMD kept Mr. Pani on? Do you think the FBI got involved? Do you think Mr. Pani is in trouble?

We do.
