NASA releases Moonbase Alpha for free

Today NASA launched their new strategy moon sim Moonbase Alpha for free on Steam.

Moonbase Alpha is a multiplayer game built on the Unreal Engine 3 that invites up to 6 players at a time to perform repair missions on a fictional moon base in the year 2032. Teams of people race against the clock to score highest on worldwide leaderboards for who can get the missions done the fastest.

The game was developed by the same team that worked on America’s Army, another free-to-play US Government-backed game.

Garg That screenshot makes it look like Unreal Engine 3 was ported to the Atari.

primesuspect It's not great, I'll tell you that. It looks like it was made by eighth graders.

_k Um that is just a map screen shot. I spent about half an hour playing it last night and to me it was very obvious what engine it was running. There was decent light source , good model edge detection, and decent controls. For a free game produced by the government I think it was a decent play and worth 30 minutes.

My screen shots taken at 1080p, converted to JPEG, then reduced in size to 50%.
