Netflix brings new life to the 360

Netflix brings new life to the 360

The 360 is getting a much needed transformation from Netflix this Wednesday at Midnight.  All Xbox owners will be required to update their consoles to receive a major new update. With it, they will be able to watchhigh definition movies, and stream content from the enormous Netflix library.  Xbox 360 owners can also navigate categories like games, photos, and videos through a dashboard populated with new “avatars”. With the new perks also comes a new name; the update is referred to as the “New Xbox Experience” or NxE.

The NxE, which will offer more than 12,000 movie titles to rent from MGM, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros, is part of Microsoft’s efforts to appeal beyond the hardcore gamer market.  The company has been trying for years to brand the Xbox as the digital entertainment center for the living room. Microsoft executive Shane Kim bragged that the company is “building the world’s largest social and entertainment network” that connects to televisions.  Microsoft hopes this will help bleak holiday sales and compete with the Wii and bring new sales to the Xbox.

PS: Once you have the NxE installed tonight, don’t forget to download the NxE gamer pictures to qualify for a chance to win one of many MS Point prize packs they’re giving away.

Cyclonite This is the push I needed to get a Netflix subscription. I'll probably start on this week. I've been using the NXE since the weekend, and it's pretty cool.

GHoosdum All they need to add now is a web browser and flash capability, and nobody will need cable!

So true. Prag and I will be ditching cable TV post-Christmas due to expected Netflix gift certificates. I'm pretty psyched.

MiracleManS So, let me get this straight, with ANY netflix subscription I can stream anything I damn well please?

Why am I not doing this now?
  6. MiracleManS
MiracleManS As a note, it appears no, you'll only be able to get stuff from the Instant-queue
  7. CB
CB Well, yes, it has to be something that they've made available for streaming.

and I think you must have at least the $12 subscription plan to get it.
  8. MiracleManS
MiracleManS That seems a little borked considering unlimited downloads to PC is available on the $8.99 plan

That's why I said 'I think'. I have the 3-at-a-time plan myself, but I know that you don't get the streaming stuff at the lower subscription levels.

MiracleManS Sorry CB, I only said that because I heard something similar myself and was concerned as to why it would required a higher tier membership than the PC version.

Cyclonite Should work on any plan that allows streaming, and only with movies that are provided for instant viewing. They'll continue to add things, so just give that portion some time. Hopefully this'll be the jumpstart they need to get it going stronger.

CrazyJoe LOL, I love how Sony has blocked all Columbia Pictures titles from being viewed on the 360. That's rather petty.

They are just pissed because people have yet work warm up to the idea of paying $30 for a damn BR disc or their left nut for a player.

Sony is pure fail as far as I'm concerned. :mad2:
