Quite the team of Heroes, no?
Hero Academy was released August 10th on Steam, and along with it come some fun tie-ins to Team Fortress 2. When you purchase Hero Academy on Steam you immediately unlock thirty five hero avatars and a hat in TF2. The three available avatar packs each also grant you a different TF2 hat. When you purchase an avatar pack on Steam, you receive the associated hat in TF2. All the hats are also available in TF2’s Mann Co. Store and each comes with a Steam Gift of its associated game or DLC. Let’s take a look at the new swag.
Dwarves Pack and Grenadier Helm
Fan of short bearded warriors and buxom wenches? Then the seventeen character Dwarves Pack is for you. This pack comes with the Grenadier Helm for TF2’s Demoman. Purchase the cartoon horned Grenadier Helm in TF2 and be awarded the Dwarves Pack Steam Gift.
Dark Elves Pack and The Void Monk Hair

The Dark Elves pack is a set of seventeen ghostly elven avatars. The fighter class avatar, The Void Monk, is the basis for The Void Monk Hair for the Scout. Purchase the Dark Elves pack on Steam and receive a Void Monk Hair in TF2. Purchase The Void Monk Hair in TF2 and receive a Steam Gift copy of the Dark Elves Pack.
Tribe Pack and Tribal Bones
More of a gremlin fan? The seventeen avatar Tribe pack consists of seventeen of the wasteland warriors. Pick this pack up and recieve the Pyro’s Tribal Bones, the Chieftain’s necklace of fallen enemy parts. Grab the Tribal Bones from the Mann Co. Store and you’ll get the Tribe Pack Steam Gift.
Hero Academy and The Ninja Cowl

The avatars included with the purchase of Hero Academy consist of eighteen TF2 avatars, one of each of the nine classes in both Blu and Red, and seventeen Council avatars. The Ninja Cowl is a team colored leather mask for the Spy based off of the Ninja hero in the Council pack and is yours free when you purchase Hero Academy (the base game). You can also purchase the Ninja Cowl in the Mann Co. Store and receive a Steam Gift copy of Hero Academy.

While individually, Hero Academy, each pack and each hat cost have the same price, $4.99 each, you’ll really only want to buy the hats in-game if you are specifically after the uncraftable version. Buying the game or DLC through the Steam Store will grant you a craftable version of the hats in TF2. Either way, the hats are Unique quality, not Genuine as a lot of cross-promoted hats are. If you are interested in the whole shebang, the Hero Academy Gold Pack is available for $14.99. The Gold Pack includes Hero Academy, all three avatar packs, a bonus Uniform Colors pack and all four TF2 hats in craftable form.
