New Releases for The Week of Gobliiins and Hexagons

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

A long tradition of raunchy adventure games continues with Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust initially for the Xbox 360. A typical item-based quest ensues when Larry the younger tries to find a mole from another studio at his uncle’s film set. The game breaks from the long Leisure Suit Larry tradition in that it contains no nudity. The voice acting includes several B-List actors such as Shannon Elizabeth, Carmen Electra, and Dave Atell.

The big cross-platform release this week is the movie tie-in Monsters vs. Aliens. This title will have the players fight their way through various scenes from the Dreamworks film. It features a variety of characters to choose from, and active-join cooperative mode.

Hitting the PC this week is Gobliiins 4. This new Gobliiins game reaches way back to the style and gameplay of the first two Gobliiins games from the early 90’s. Players will control three gobliiins who each have one and only one ability. Teamwork will be required to solve the many puzzles and obsticles as they cross a ludicrous fantasy landscape.

This week’s spotlight release is the new Puzzle Quest game, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, being shipped first for the PC, with other platforms to follow. The gameplay of this new entry will be similar to that of past Puzzle Quest games, in that the player will be traveling an overland map (in this case a galaxy, rather than a pseudo-medieval landscape), solving puzzles and leveling up a character. Some new elements include space-ships, jumpgates, and a new over-arching puzzle mechanic, which will  incorporate hexagonal tiles, although will still be roughly based on the popular Bejeweled. Derived puzzle types will include the obvious fighting puzzles in addition to jumpgate hacking, mining, haggling, crafting, and gathering rumors. As in past Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, each puzzle type will have a slightly different goal, but still work on the same guidelines as the core puzzle. Puzzle Quest fans will want to at least check out the demo.
