Styled to look and feel like a major sporting game release, Foosball 2012 is a Foosball table simulator with some interesting features. The big gimmick here is the cross-platform multiplayer, allowing one player to be on the PS3, while their opponent is playing on a Vita. Beyond that, the game boasts a simple interface and controls system, a dynamic camera, PlayStation Move support, and lots of customization options—including a variety of tables, balls, and paddles—which unlock through the single-player career mode. Perhaps I’m biased because I like Foosball tables so much, but this looks like it could be a fun party activity, especially compared to more traditional sports games, which might not be as intuitive for guests to play along or as fun for spectators.
Wreckateer is a motion controlled sling-shot game. Players pantomime grabbing and pulling back to load the magic trebuchet, aim with their bodies, and then release to fire the shot at the three-dimensional enemy castle to blast it into points and achievements. The game starts with simple launch-and-watch gameplay, but as the player progresses through the dozens of levels, their arsenal improves, and they gain the ability to affect the bird cannonball mid-flight by striking it with their hands to redirect it, or by activating one of five special abilities before crashing into the pig goblin-infested towers. Other features include in-flight power-ups, online leaderboards, local multi-player, and ‘playlists’ which allow players to set a sequence of particular levels to be played through in one session.
