You’ll think it odd for me to find a sports simulation game interesting, but Lords of Football plumbs new depths within the genre. It has the sport game-play that one would expect from a game about managing a Football team. Players choose their team members, develop their skills, and play through a season of games in an attempt to come out with a championship trophy, but this one doesn’t stop there. The management simulation is a bit deeper, allowing the team to be run every hour of every day during the season. As the owner of the team, you don’t just run the team itself, you run their lives. From their travel plans to their interpersonal relationships, to their late-night hobbies, everything can have an effect on the game and on public opinion. A major part of the game is controlling the egos of the men, and ensuring that the drama that plays out off the field doesn’t hurt the game when they get on the field.
The Icrontic spotlight this week illuminates the arch over Defiance. I’ve got a lot to say about Syfy and Trion Worlds’ project, but I already said it over here, so, I’ll just point you to it.
