First up we have the cross platform release, G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra. This movie tie-in will pick up the G.I. Joe story where the new movie leaves off. Engage in tactical combat thorough the G.I Joe story universe. Pick your team, outfit them with futuristic weaponry, and take on the forces of Cobra. Expect lots of explosions and cheesy one-liners.
For the Wii this week, we find Ultimate Duck Hunting. This hunting sim seems to be more than just another excuse to shoot at your TV screen with your WiiMote. Players compete with three of their friends to take home the most ducks, but they must employ some strategy to win. Mostly this entails keeping track of your dogs. Watch as your dogs fight over ducks with your opponent’s dogs, make sure to rest each dog as it becomes tired or injured, and try to intercept your friend’s dogs to steal their ducks. If you like shooting games, but don’t think most of them offer enough opportunity to be a dick to your friends, you might want to check this one out.
In the “never expected this on WiiWare” category, we’re looking at Sexy Poker. Play poker or blackjack against your choice of six different sexy anime girls. If you win, their clothing will magically disappear, revealing a series of progressively more naked images, which you can peruse at your leisure after you have won them. If you’re into this sort of thing, it’s a good deal for only 500 Wii points, but I really only featured the title so I could make this joke: Sexy Poker?! I just met ‘er!
Finally, our spotlight for this week is Hearts of Iron III for the PC. If you’re a fan of the Hearts of Iron franchise already, then you know what to expect from this title. Hearts of Iron II was mostly just Hearts of Iron with a new engine, and so the trend continues. This new engine however introduces a whole suite of new features in addition to the improved graphics and interface. Mostly this comes in the form of improved detail. Micromanaging tactical units has become easier than ever with the introduction of customizable divisions, multi-front wars have been made easier with the ability to assign troops to specific theaters, intelligence gathering has an all-new system to make garnering secrets more practical, and the “government-in-exile” system allows you to continue to fight back even after your territory has been taken from you. If you’re not a fan of the Hearts of Iron franchise already, however, then you probably never will be.
