Icrontic Spotlight: Rise of the Argonauts

Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People – Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough is the final installment in the Adventure game based on characters from the internet humor site Homestar Runner. In this episode Trogdor escapes from his video game and starts destroying anything he get his beefy hands on. As with the other episodes, it will only be released as WiiWare.

Want a platformer with a bunch of vehicles, including Jeeps and jetpacks? Crash Commando for PSN answers that call. The self-declared best feature of this game: No plot. No girl to rescue, no world to save, just shoot everything that moves in varied attractive environments. The most exciting feature of this game might be its multiplayer. Up to 16 players battling in a heavy weapons platformer: If done right, this game could be a sophisticated version of the old LAN party favorite, Soldat.

For the PS2 this week comes Army Men: Soldiers of Misfortune. Remember the Army Men action game from years past? This is like that, but for children. Same basic, over-the-shoulder shooter action, only the main character is a shrunken little boy instead of a plastic figurine, and his weapons are all very tiny NERF brand guns.

This week’s Icrontic Spotlight is the major cross-platform release Rise of the Argonauts. While developer Liquid Entertainment has had nothing but lack-luster releases since 2001, a look at this game will make any fans of mythological Role-Playing Games hope that they’ve gotten back on the horse. In this new RPG, players take on the role of Jason, searching for The Golden Fleece. Jason hops from island to island, tearing through classic mythology with a sword, teaming up with great heroes (Like Hercules, Achilles, and Atlantia), and dedicating his battles to the ancient gods in order to gain their favor and abilities (this is how Jason levels). The Quest for the Golden Fleece may not seem like a very relevant story for our modern times, but it certainly has plenty of potential for great action and compelling story if Liquid can pull it off this time.

We all need a single player game once in awhile. ;) If you pick it up, let us know how it is.
