Ready for download on Xbox Live this week, Death by Cube puts players in the role of a mysterious robot who has lost his memories. The only thing he knows is that he must find and reactivate the heroine robot. He ventures out to find that he is under attack by hostile alien robots filled with evil red oil. In each level the little robot must defend his home base from the aliens, or attack an opposing base, using an ever-growing arsenal of robot bodies, each with different special abilities. The game includes a multiplayer mode over Live, which allows up to eight players in two teams to face off against each other in attempt to destroy the other team’s base.
Coming to the DS this week, Glory of Heracles puts players in the role of a mysterious boy who has lost his memories. Washed up on the island of Crete, the boy meets with others who have similarly missing pasts, and who also all seem to be immortal. The new friends set off for Mt. Olympus in search of answers, along the way many dark forces seek to hinder their progress. This jRPG features lots of enemies and equipment options, semi-tactical combat, and the choice of either stylus or button controls. It has an equipment system that includes the need to maintain and repair items, as well as options for creating custom items from parts found in the world, or improving existing items with alchemical ingredients. The magic system is interesting in that it requires the management of four distinct mana bars. Each of the four elements has its own store of power called Ether, and different spells use varying amounts from different bars, adding a layer of complexity to the magic system. Whether this is for good or ill is yet to be seen.
In the WiiWare store this week, we’ll get Muscle March. This quirky title challenges players to strike body-builder poses at the correct moment, mixed with the occasional WiiMote-shaking chase scene. The all mighty protein powder has been stolen, and a team of body-builders set out to find the culprit in the only way they know how, by smashing through every wall between them and the prized powder. The player must watch the poses the rest of the team is making, and match the pose, or be slowed down by the next wall. With incredibly silly graphics, potentially embarrassing gameplay, and a turn-based multiplayer mode, this title will be a hit at your next supplements tasting party.
The Icrontic Spotlight this week is the cross-platform release Dark Void. This over-the-shoulder adventure game combines tactical ground combat with jet-pack powered dog-fighting. Will is trapped in a mysterious place called The Void. With him are The Survivors, a group of people from Earth with various backgrounds, who are similarly trapped. Will finds himself mixed up in the battle between The Survivors and a mysterious alien race when he dons Nikolai Tesla’s jetpack. Also look for Dark Void Zero, released this week as an 8-bit prequel to Dark Void on DSiWare.
