Botanicula is the follow-up to Machinarium. It’s a point-and-click adventure puzzle game, similar to its predecessor, but with some new elements. First, it takes place in a plant-based world, rather than the dirty machine-world of Machinarium, so there is all-new art in a new style. Second, the player controls five characters this time. They move together, but each have their own special ability which they can use to help the group navigate the game-world. The little ‘tree creatures’ have set out on an adventure to save the last seed from their home tree, before it is overwhelmed by an alien parasite. As with Machinarium, the focus is on making the gameplay easy and casual, even if the challenges themselves require thought. The player will never be caught up on trying to get the game to do what they want it to do, as the characters react automatically when the player figures out the right thing to click on. Also expect the art to be crisp and compelling and the musical scores to be varied and beautiful. This is art as a game.
