Starhawk is the sequel to the 2007 vehicular combat game Warhawk. This is a franchise of high-multiplayer battlefield combat games. The game takes place in a science fiction universe where the forces of good are fighting an incursion of accidental mutants, created by mining a supernatural mineral which few understand, but all desire. The battles for the colonies take place against this backdrop. In this sequel, players are introduced to a new gameplay mechanic. There will now be the tactical option to build structures on the battlefield during the conflict. The structures serve as armories and bunkers for the players, and introduce an element of the real-time strategy genre onto the battlefield. The game supports up to 64 players in the main game-mode, has a single-player story mode, and also a cooperative mode in which players do battle with hordes of AI enemies; another new feature.
The Icrontic spotlight this week shines from the wands of Warlock: Master of the Arcane. This turn-based strategy game strongly resembles the latest game of the Civilization franchise. A 3D map across a hexagonally-gridded play world, where players found cities, build military units, improve the landscape, develop a society, etc. There are plenty of details in the Icrontic preview of Warlock, and you can expect a review of the title sometime in the next few weeks.
