New Releases for The Week of Photo Shoots and Kung-fu Bikini Babes

WarioWare D.I.Y

First up, WarioWare D.I.Y. is coming to the DS. By now most of us are familiar with the WarioWare mini-game style, where simplicity and quick thinking rule the day. This new WarioWare title is no different, coming with 90 such “Micro Games”. This time, however, players will also be able to use the suite of WarioWare design tools to craft their own Micro Games to play alone or with friends. Players with a DSi and an internet connection will also be able to share their new creations and download the ones that others have shared, resulting in a near limitless supply of zany, furiously fast games.

Dead or Alive: Paradise

The first Dead or Alive game in the franchise to show up on the PSP is Dead or Alive Paradise. There won’t be any fighting in this iteration of Dead or Alive, however. Like the Dead or Alive Extreme games for the Xbox 360, this game focuses solely on interacting with the Dead or Alive girls while they frolic on the beach in their bikinis. Play mini-games like Pool Hopping, Beach Volleyball, and Blackjack, then interact directly with each girl by talking to her, buying her gifts (like more bikinis), and taking her picture for your photo album. If the player manages to get close enough to any one girl she may allow access to her special collection of pictures, called “Venus Clips”.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love

For the Wii and PS2, the Icrontic Spotlight release this week is the RPG adventure Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love. Released as Sakura Wars V in Japan, this game marks the first time that a Sakura Wars game has been released in North America. In an alternative 1920’s New York, a young Naval officer has been sent to work with an elite fighting team who are undercover as musicians and dancers on Broadway—known as the New York Combat Revue, Star Division. The plot of the game is dynamic and branching, with decisions needing to be made quickly. At various points in the plot, the player will be presented with decisions that must be made on the fly, with some of them involving a power level rather than a choice. In addition, the character will eventually get a camera, and decisions about which photos to take will similarly affect the plot. The player will spend lots of time exploring the Big Apple, and interacting with its denizens. When enemies are encountered, the characters will either go into ground battle mode, or air battle mode, with each mode requiring an a different set of skills and button timings. Develop the characters through the 8 chapters of the story, and protect New York from an ancient and powerful evil.
