New Releases for the Week of Polymorphers and Hoodwinked Horsemen

Darksiders

Darksiders

First up this week, we have Darksiders for PS3 and Xbox 360. In this over-the-shoulder adventure game players take up the role of the horseman War after the forces of evil trick him into unleashing an apocalyptic conflict upon our world. The Charred Council, in the process of judging his actions, have given him the opportunity to travel the earth in mortal form, and attempt to find and slay those who are truly responsible for the turmoil. Start out with only a basic weapon, and gain new tools and weapons with each level in a Legend of Zelda-style progression–including a stone wakening horn, a grappling hook, a set of demonic wings, and something that looks like a portal gun. Expect lots of weapons, armors and combat abilities as well.

Herod: Steam Engine

Heron: Steam Engine

An interesting title on WiiWare this week is Heron: Steam Engine. This Pipe Dream-esque puzzle game players must try to connect same-colored pipes on either end of the puzzle board by turning the pipe pieces within. When a connection is made, the pieces disappear. Each pipe color has a pressure level that must be periodically released, so that matches need to be made as evenly as possible among the colors. If you’re looking fora new puzzle game, and you’re tired of just matching in every game, this one may be worth a look.

Bayonetta

Bayonetta

For PS3 and Xbox 360 this week, we’re getting Bayonetta. Bayonetta is the last witch–the sole survivor of the great witch hunts of 500 years ago. Only just now escaping her imprisonment, she’s out for vengeance. Bayonetta must fight her way through those who once wronged her, using “torture attacks” that resemble the tortures once used against witches. In addition, she has the ability to polymorph into several interesting creatures (Like a panther, or a cloud of small bats), and some “Witch Time” abilities that allow her to slow time and reposition herself for tactical advantage.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis

Divinity II: Ego Draconis

Icrontic’s spotlight release this week is Divinity II: Ego Draconis for the PC and Xbox 360. This is a tactical RPG adventure game with some interesting mechanics, and one very attractive gimmick. You are the newest Dragon Slayer, but all of your memories have been fragmented as part of an unfinished initiation ritual. During this fragile time, your mind is invaded by a dying dragon knight, and you become a dragon knight yourself, with the ability to turn into a dragon at will. With open world exploration, and fluid character development, this is a sure-fire experience for any RPG fan. For more information check out Icrontic’s review of Divinity II.
