Just like every year at around this time, the New Releases start to wind down. Everyone who wanted to release their game in time for holiday gift-giving has already done so, and all we see for the rest of the year are titles which either missed their deadline and are releasing a bit late, or titles which are not counting on holiday sales. Most of what we have here are expansions, ports, and re-releases, but there are a couple worth at least mentioning, like Little Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQ, a cute DS shooter with a fun theme, and Starport Gemini, an indie Tactical Space Combat game for the PC.
Possibly more interesting than those however is the release of a limited-time edition Mario All-Stars for the Wii. I know it’s not a new release, but it’s worth pointing out that this re-releases of the classic NES Mario games (anti-aliased for the SNES) comes bundled with a Mario history book and ‘best-of’ style soundtrack, and can be played with the classic controller (unlike the classic Mario games on WiiWare, which was a huge disappointment for me—as much as I love the Wii, I hate controlling anything with the sideways-held WiiMote.) If you’re still looking for a gift for the Mario fan in your life, this would be a good call. Just don’t pick it up at Amazon, as they seem to have it for almost double MSRP.
