Bleach: Soul Resurreccion is a third-person adventure/fighting game featuring the characters of the popular anime of the same name. The game plays along the lines of other popular Japanese games of this ilk, but it shines in its animation style. The game looks like it could be an episode of the show, with seamless characterizations and colorful action sequences. The story here is that Aizen has used the Hogyoku to create an army of Arrancars. Ichigo and the Soul Reapers must destroy them.
Pirate strategy games have received a bit of a following over the last few years, with complexity levels varying, but for the most part staying pretty squarely in the hardcore tactics arena. In most games in this genre, players have to concentrate on multiple levels of pirate empire maintenance, and even understand something about actual colonial era ship-to-ship combat. There is room in the genre, therefore, for a more casual pirate simulator, and that’s where Pirates of Black Cove comes in. The style is intended to be much more goofy than most, and the gameplay is a lot more open, even allowing for weapons and abilities which do not belong anywhere near colonial-era Carribean. In scope the game plays more like an RPG than an economic or military simulator. If you’ve been wanting to get in on the pirate game, but didn’t like how fiddly the existing games are, this might be one to try out.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is a starkly stylized puzzle platformer with a mysterious protagonist and story. The game is seemingly an attempt to take typical gaming conventions and revitalize them with a creepy sort of art direction, not something we haven’t seen before. The game reminds me of LIMBO or even Braid. The art, the sound, the themes are all a tiny bit creepy, but much more colorful than other recent ‘creepy platformer’ games. Since the protagonist is a floating ship rather than a jumping man, we’ll see some different puzzles than in recent similar indie games as well, but expect the same level of unhumble depth and tough to wrangle puzzle levels.
