Kona’s Crate is the new incarnation of the previously released indie game Boxes. In both games, players control a small platform with two thrusters on it. They control this platform, Lunar Lander-style, in an attempt to get a small crate to its destination without breaking it. This new iteration adds more obstacles to the puzzles, as well as the character of Kona, the native Chief who is the recipient of the crates. The game has over sixty puzzling levels and the ability to share high scores on Facebook. In addition to the Steam release, a port is coming to iOS and Android.
In Panzer Corps, players assemble WWII-era armies, and battle it out on a hex grid in a turn-based tactics engine. It seems to have lots to offer, if you’re into that sort of thing. There are 400 unit types in 19 classes with 20 detailed parameters to identify each unit’s abilities, 17 terrain types, and 19 countries to choose from in 26 scenarios. That’s a lot of variety, and the engine sounds robust and intuitive—even allowing for units to develop and advance through a campaign. If they ever decide to theme the game with dragons or spaceships or something, I would certainly give it a try.
NCAA Football 12 is just like NCAA Football 11, except it has these new features: Road to Glory, Coaching Carousel, Custom Playbooks, Custom Conferences, Authentic Gameday Traditions, Smart Zone Coverage, and Enhanced Tackling Engine. I don’t know what any of that means, so… erm … there you go….
If you’re not familiar, ‘Splosion Man is a platformer in which the protagonist must use his ability to explode his own body to escape each level and free himself from the scientists who created him. Ms. ‘Splosion Man is the sequel. The game has similar gameplay, with a few new abilities and features. Most notably, the game includes a mode called 2 girls, 1 controller. In this mode, there are two self-exploding characters, each being controlled by one of the analog sticks on the Xbox controller. If you’ve had your corpus callosum severed in a strange and very lucky icicle accident, and you’ve been looking for a way to show off your newfound abilities to your friends, that’s the mode you’ll want to play on. For everyone else, it will likely be controller-tossingly frustrating.
