Not much to see here this week. Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have got their new adaptations this week, which they seem to get for every platform a few weeks after release. BurgerTime on the Virtual Console is pretty sweet, but it’s not new.
Just about he only thing we have of real interest here is Party of Sin, and only because there is nothing else. This game is a platforming puzzle game, which allows the player to switch among a group of characters with different abilities to solve the puzzles. That’s not new, we’ve seen that a hundred times since it was first done by a few vikings. Here, however, we’ve got a much larger roster of puzzle-solving characters, seven rather than the typical two or three. Each character represents one of the seven deadly sins, and has a corresponding power (Greed can grab stuff from afar, Sloth slows things down, Gluttony eats things, Lust charms enemies, etc.). The diverse group is attempting to escape from hell, and you’re helping them. A further interesting feature, and the only thing that really makes it worth mentioning, is that it has a cooperative mode for up to four players.
There is also this Surge game, which is an interesting take on the matching puzzle genre. The board is split into two halves, and the matches must come from those along the seam. Great visuals, and cool special blocks round it out. Unfortunately, no one will play it because it’s on the Vita exclusively.
