Unmechanical is a stylized 2.5D puzzle/adventure game. The protagonist, a cute little robot, has been drawn into a mysterious world of organic and metallic machines. The player controls the robot as he flies freely through the world, solving puzzles and discovering the far corners of the strange world. The game boasts very simple controls for easy pick-up-and-play, and a wide variety of puzzles including logic- and physics-oriented puzzles. At only about three hours though, it’s a little short.
Symphony is a bullet-hose game with music-library integration. The game has some sweet and simple graphics, and gameplay that changes depending on the sound file you load up to play. Unfortunately, as I discovered recently when I loaded up Audiosurf, I found that these types of games are not really fun when you don’t store music on your computer anymore. With Spotify, Turntable.fm, and Google Music, I’ve got no need for music stored directly on my system anymore. Perhaps I’m in the minority on this, so if you do have a nice selection of music still on your system, you might want to check this out.
In Deponia, players take on the role of a denizen of a trash-covered world, who wants nothing more than to escape. Surrounded by trash, and the people content to live in it for his entire life, he’s tried numerous times to escape to the beautiful trash-free sky-city of Elysium, always failing in the end. When a girl falls from the sky with the trash, he has a reason to try one more time, to help her get home. The gameplay is typical click-around adventure game style with cartoonish graphics and a dry humor reminiscent of the new Monkey Island franchise. With high-def illustrations, hours of dialog options, and some interesting world-building, it seems enough for any click-around fan.
