Each of the three DLC libraries is adding an interesting casual game this week. Anyone who has seen the bridge and tower building games on the casual and flash game sites will recognize the mechanics of the WiiWare release Tiki Towers right away. As the leader of a band of monkeys, the player must get through a series of physics/building puzzles to reclaim his island home. In Lumines Supernova for PSN, we’re getting a pumped up version of the now classic Lumines game. This new version has several new game modes plus other features, like the ability to create custom skins and sound tracks. Puzzle Arcade is new to Live Arcade. This simple game allows for jigsaw puzzle fun using a series of different images, with lots of different settings, including multi-player mode, and moving pictures. Couples who like to jigsaw together might want to give this one a try (at least it wont occupy the whole dining room table for a week).
A bit less casual is the cross-platform release X-Blades. In this hack-and-slash action game the player takes on the role of Ayumi, a typical, scantily clad anime girl with a sword and an attitude. Not much to this game. Slash up, or cast spells on, the monsters until they’re all gone. The biggest feature of this one is its graphics. From the screen shots, it looks like you’ll want to play this one on a nice, big, hi-res screen.
On the consoles, we’re getting 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. The GTA-esque shooter is also pretty straight-forward, and there will be few surprises for players who tried 50 Cent: Bulletproof. Rapper 50 Cent is running and gunning through the desert, performing action movie-style stunts and fight scenes in an effort to get back what’s his. The most interesting feature of this game is the active join co-op play, which allows your friends to join in as 50 Cent’s friends (the G-Unit) and help you wage battle against the forces of the evil drug lord, and then leave again without disrupting your game.
The Icrontic Spotlight this week falls on East India Company. This strategy game seems reminiscent of a Sid Meier production or a European style boardgame. Choosing from amongst eight colonial era nations, the player must use their trading company in the East Indies to conquer the entire region. The game will involve trade, diplomacy, and battles at sea. Invite your friends to a game, so that you may broadside them, and take their tea.
