Gears of War 3 is the third Gears of War game. In this game there is a war, and the player is like a gear in that war… or something… and there were two more before this one. There is probably a lot of shooting people involved. Website says there is 4-player co-op now, so if they didn’t have that before, I guess that’s new…
The world needs a Bunch of Heroes. Aliens are attacking, attempting to conquer our planet with an army of our own animated dead. Four unlikely heroes stand against the flood of horrific, monstrous corpses. The game looks and plays like an isometric dungeon crawl. Players choose from one of four classes, and work together with up to three of their friends to blast their way through the zombies and aliens using modern and science-fantasy weapons. The visual style is cartoony and light, and the advancement and equipment system is simplistic and requires little actual attention.
In Rotastic players solve puzzles, break bricks and fight enemies, AI or human, with a super simple mechanic. Grapple to nearby anchors, and swing around them. Build up speed to launch quickly, change direction to slow or avoid traps. Also, it’s pretty goofy. These ‘single mechanic’ games can be pretty hit or miss. This one will likely either be crazy fun or terrible boring.
This week’s Icrontic Spotlight shatters at the intersection of Burnout Crash! This is ingenious. The creators of Burnout have finally discovered what we’ve all known all along: The best part of Burnout games is Crash Mode, in which players, instead of racing, just try to cause as much damage as possible at a particular dangerous intersection. In the first Burnout game, it was an incidental bonus game mode. When I would play this game with my buddies, we wouldn’t even bother with the name of the game, we would invite each other to play some ‘Crash Mode’ specifically. With each further game, the mode received more and more attention, finally culminating in this new game, which doesn’t even have a Race Mode anymore. In Burnout Crash! it’s all about Crash Mode. The game features 16 different intersections with lots of possible crashes, and a glut of achievements to earn. Get your friends over because this is going to be one of the most fun couch games in the Arcade. There is also a Kinect control mode, but that sounds a bit dubious.
