Today Nexon America unveiled a social gaming portal that they’ve been working on for “several years”, called “Block Party”.
Nexon is famous for their ostensibly “free to play” web-based games such as Dungeon Fighter, Mabinogi, Maple Story, and Combat Arms. Micropayments make up the core of the Nexon experience, however. You cannot usually play at any sort of advanced level without spending money on certain items or upgrades.
Creating a social portal for these games is a brilliant move by Nexon, and puts them in the company of sites like Kongregate and Newgrounds, Xbox Live, and Steam. Players will be able to communicate with players of any of Nexon’s games as well as compare achievements and access Nexon’s other content.
The site, Blockparty.com, is not up yet, but the core Block Party content is available at any of the normal Nexon portal sites, anywhere the iconic “blockheads” make an appearance. Expect a consolidation of Nexon portal content to the new Block Party domain throughout the next several months as beta testing continues “throughout 2009”.
