Nintendo 3DS sales go wild after price drop

Nintendo 3DS

The numbers are in, and Nintendo is proud to announce that a recent price drop (from $249.99 to $169.99) caused the sales of the Nintendo 3DS to increase 260% over the prior month. After August 12, when the price cut took effect, 185,000 units were sold.

Nintendo dude Scott Moffitt said:

“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS. With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.”

I’m fine with having paid the old price. The twenty free games I’m getting as an early adopter are worth the premium, in my eyes. Of course, I’m a nostalgia gamer and most of the free games are classic NES titles. A younger buyer might not be so enchanted with the deal.

Oh, it’s available in Flame Red now too.

Rob-Merritt My kids still don't want one after the price drop. They rather get an upgraded ipod touch and keep playing their DS lite. They need better and more games on the 3ds if they expect to gain any lasting traction..
  2. Starman
Starman I sorta wish I had gotten it sooner for the free older games, but I'm still going to hold out for the revision.

cola So glad I got this when I did, love the classic games XD

CB Nintendo has trained us all that waiting gets us better versions of the product. Not just newer products, but the same product in better form factors, so what do they expect us to do? I'm waiting for "3DS Lite".
