The Barnes & Noble Nook and the Amazon Kindle will soon be headed to retail stores, if a report at Engadget has the right of it. According to sources speaking on the condition of anonymity, the Nook will be sold at Best Buy, with the Kindle making an appearance at Target.
It has long been theorized that the sales of some items are boosted by their availability at brick and mortar stores for the American contingency that is still leery of buying items online. Hence, the Kindle’s arrival Target is probably a smart decision on Amazon’s part, but the Nook is already sold at Barnes and Nobles. Presumably, they are hoping to reach a wider audience by selling the item in a tech store in addition to their own book stores.
It’s also likely that these reflect a desire to compete with Apple’s iPad. Apple already has a number brick and mortar locations in malls across America, as well as a presence in many Best Buys, a pair of arrangements that has no doubt contributed to the iPad flying off the shelves.
It is rumored that the Nook will be coming to Best Buy on April 18th, with the Kindle arriving a week later at Target on April 25.
