NVIDIA GF100 retail names announced

Dispelling rumors that next-gen GeForce parts (codenamed GF100) would go to market under GTX 300-series branding, NVIDIA has officially revealed that they will hit retail as the GTX 400-series.

Now that NVIDIA has performed its monthly we-don’t-have-cards-but-we’re-really-super-honestly-close-dudes-honest dance, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Sledgehammer70 It looks like 6 more weeks before launch of the physical cards. But I do know cards are starting to go out to very select press.

Overall I know I will be happy to replace this 5970 with Nvidia's new tech.

Cliff_Forster When? How much? Benchmarks? or GTFO

    Fixed.
  6. mas0n
mas0n Is this their way of admitting that it's been so long since GTX200 series was released that there probably should have been a GTX300 series in there somewhere? Or maybe they're reserving the GTX300 series for a slew of rebranding.
  7. Thrax
Thrax NVIDIA wasn't happy about us running the story but, yes, the 300-series is rebranded architecture with extra features bolted on.

Garg GTX400: 200 faster than the GTX200 series.

I am not sure how the GTX 480 is slower than a non working part in Windows 7 64bit. This is a massive issue across the board & ATI is aware of it.

Also the claim of the new tech being slower has yet to be proven.
  11. tech master hey ati fanboy Thrax this is nvidia get out of here hate somewhere else ok go play with your crap i will use ati only when they fix their drivers because with broken drivers i can not use their cards because they dont work so they are an expensive doorstop

    What, another ati fanboy?

*There, that's better. See by using decent punctuation you can better relate your point, that being disgust. Would you like to know why? Yes? Well, in this way all of your vitriol is contained in the 'what' which is then followed by the punchline or accusation of 'another ati fanboy.'

What's up anonymous Internet tough guy? I use an NVIDIA GPU, and have since 2006.

BuddyJ At CES we saw one setup running a GF100 card and another running the same program on SLI GTX 285s. I asked our NVIDIA friends about this but they couldn't comment but from my impression there it seemed the perfromance was roughly equal. And if the performance of one GF100 card is equal to SLI GTX 285s, then the HD 5970 is faster. Guess we'll have to see how it plays out. ;)

That's odd... as 2 GTX 285's are faster than 1 GTX 295 as the GTX 295 really is 2 GTX 280's slapped together.

The link you show about shows the GTX 295 to be faster? which it is not.

Uhhhhh Nvidia, price, release date, benchmarks, or still GTFO!

    Okay, so holiday 2010? ;D

And to think, some poor Nvidia fanboy is depriving himself of the glory of ATI 58xx graphics while sitting around waiting for this thing. They would fare better sitting around waiting for the Easter Bunny. ;D

ardichoke Heh, that reminds me of a road sign that used to be up a few miles outside my college town.

Sadly "someone" (read: one of the frats) stole it and it was never seen again.
  29. Thrax
Thrax That very sign was my inspiration. :) My parents have had that picture on their fridge for 25 years.
  30. ardichoke
ardichoke It may have been 2 miles past the End of the Earth, but I do miss Houghton. Perhaps Nvidia opened a secret R&D lab in Houghton/Hancock and that's why it's taking so long for Fermi to show up?
  31. Garg
Garg I haven't been keeping up with the Fermi gossip, so I don't know if this is old news. I just heard from an NVIDIA guy that Fermi will probably be out in April. The individual said that they were being told March, but thinks April is more likely.
  32. Thrax
Thrax Source: NVIDIA working to show Fermi at CES
Not only does NVIDIA have a history of going retail with A2 or A3 revision silicon, but some reports say that A2 silicon has only just taped out. In a best case scenario, NVIDIA will have A2 back by the first week of December. If A2 is any good, then the very first boards will just barely make the CES window AIBs are talking about. That means retail availability is narrowing in on February, but it could be as late as March or April if the company must spin the A3 rev.

For me its still simple. NVIDIA, official release date, price, and benchmarking samples or GTFO
