It’s been more than six months since we heard word of NVIDIA’s ION 2, but a showing by Acer at this year’s Mobile World Conference in Barcelona reveals that products based on the platform are close to hitting the retail pipeline.
Though the official specifications of the silicon lying at the heart of the ION 2 are unknown, the chip nevertheless has empowered the 532G with some impressive graphical horsepower: 720p local resolution and 1080p HDMI output.
Finishing out the specs, Acer’s new netbook features a Hyper-Threaded 1.66GHz Atom N450 (Pineview); a 10.1″, LED-backlit display; 2GB RAM; 512MB dedicated graphics memory; and NVIDIA’s new Optimus technology, which allows users to save considerable battery life by automatically switching between the ION 2’s dedicated GPU and the Atom N450’s on-die GPU as workloads dictate.
Measuring up at 1″ thick and weighing in at just 1 kilo, the Acer Aspire 532G will ship in March for an undisclosed sum.
