NVIDIA launches GeForce GTX 460

NVIDIA launches GeForce GTX 460

Today NVIDIA launches their mid-range Fermi card, the GeForce GTX 460. Featuring 336 stream processors and available in either 768mb or 1gb configurations, the GeForce GTX 460 may just be the bright and shining star NVIDIA has needed for a while. Reviews are pouring in, and they’re mostly positive: For $200 you’re getting one hell of a video card. It trades blows pretty much on even ground with its red competitor, the ATI Radeon 5850, but it costs less. After the flop that was the GTX 465, NVIDIA needed something in their corner, and it looks like the 460 may just be it.

Get the in-depth look and hard numbers from our esteemed colleagues:

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 is available now at retail for about $200.

    $219 for 256bit 1024MB version.
  3. TurboPenguin
TurboPenguin If you plan on buying and EVGA model make sure you are getting a -AR part as this carries a lifetime warranty, the cheaper -AR products are only carrying a 2 year warranty. Also remember you must register your card within 30 days of purchase.

    primesuspect Very good point.

The EVGA version, with lifetime warranty:

MAGIC Man, nice price and good looking numbers. I think I would spring for this guy over a 5850 at this point.
  7. fatcat
fatcat I can't see any reason to buy the 192bit 768MB version though. Go collect your pocket change out of the car and spend $20 more for the 256bit 1GB version.

the 460s are 199, the cheapest reputable 465 is 250.
  9. mirage
mirage I agree Fatcat, 1GB/256bit version of 460 is the way to go.

    I was talking 460 768MB vs 460 1024MB Conrad ;)

    1GB GDDR5/256bit
    5830 - $199
    GTX460 - $219
    GTX465 - $249
    5850 - $289

With the 460 and 5850 swapping paint on benchmarks, the 460 looks like a nice deal, and they seem to overclock very nicely

Oh, you mean the version "2oz Copper PCB with overclocked at 715MHz".

    Great description.
  16. pseudonym
pseudonym Yeah, that one. Their clock on it is very mild, but I've read some reviews where it overclocks very well. Anythings better than my current barton agp system!
  17. Sledgehammer70
Sledgehammer70 It looks like Nvidia found a winner with the GTX 460 cards.
  18. _k
_k Really tempting to buy one. Been looking to get away from this 9800 GX2.
  19. _k
_k Ya I just ordered one of the same, pseudonym.

Because they're expensive to get accurate ones, and most are made to measure loud noises, not industrial hums and whirrs. To get one sensitive enough for PSUs, video cards, and HSFs is cost-prohibitive for most.

_k Got mine. Darn thing is silent under load. 46C. Can't hear it over the fans on my CM fans on my rad, 19.1 dBA

    Okay, how about overclock?
  23. _k
_k Haven't bothered yet. it is at 715/1430/900 from factory so there is a really mild OC
  24. _k
_k So about an hour at 830/1660/900 doing folding, I did about 30 minutes at 800/1600/900.

That is a good overclock as I was expecting. Have fun!
