OCZ releases Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD

OCZ releases Vertex 3 Max IOPS SSD

OCZ has announced the newest member of their Vertex 3 product line: the Vertex 3 Max IOPS.  The Max IOPS SSD features the latest Sandforce controller and is designed to achieve up to 35,000 and 75,000 IOPS for 4K aligned reads/writes, respectively.

OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS Solid State Drives unleash the performance potential of the SATA 6Gbps interface, leading the speed revolution in this next-generation solution. Featuring the latest Sandforce controller design, OCZ designed the Vertex 3 Max IOPS to push the limits in read/write rates to blaze past the competition with up to 75,000 random write performance. These latest drives take productivity, gaming, and multimedia applications to the next level to work in perfect symmetry with the latest enthusiast platforms.

Built with the quality, reliability, and durability that lives up to the OCZ name, the Vertex 3 Max IOPS Series easily integrates into today’s mobile and desktop platforms and features TRIM support to optimize performance over the drive’s lifespan as the ultimate Windows 7 companion. Vertex 3 SSDs are available in 120GB and 240GB capacities and come backed by a 3-Year Warranty.

A comparison between the Vertex 2 and Vertex 3 products follows (a dash indicates performance data is not listed):

Interface Max Read Max Write Sustained Write Random 4K Read Random 4K Write
Vertex 3 Max IOPS SATA 6Gbps 550MB/s 500MB/s 35,000 75,000 IOPS
Vertex 3 SATA 6Gbps 550MB/s 500MB/s 60,000 IOPS
Vertex 2 SATA 3Gbps 285MB/s 275MB/s 250MB/s 50,000 IOPS
Vertex 2 Pro SATA 3Gbps 285MB/s 275MB/s 250MB/s 50,000 IOPS
Vertex 2 EX SATA 3Gbps 285MB/s 275MB/s 250MB/s 50,000 IOPS

To achieve maximum performance, a motherboard with a SATA 6Gbps (a.k.a SATA III) controller is required. The Vertex 3 series is compatible with SATA 3Gbps controllers, but performance will be limited when connected to those ports.

The OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS is currently available in 120GB and 240GB capacities. The 120GB version currently sells for $319.99 on Newegg—a $20 premium over the “standard” Vertex 3.
