Official: Droid Incredible takes Nexus One’s place on Verizon

Verizon users looking to get their hands on the Nexus One this summer are, perhaps, in for a disappointment: Google has announced that the Droid Incredible will be taking the Nexus One’s place as Verizon’s sole Snapdragon-powered Android handset for the foreseeable future.

In an update delivered via the official Nexus One blog, Google advised users waiting for the Nexus One to get the Incredible instead.

“In the US, if you’ve been waiting for the Nexus One for Verizon Wireless’ network, head over to http://phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/incredible to pre-order the Droid Incredible by HTC, a powerful new Android phone and a cousin of the Nexus One that is similarly feature-packed. It will be available in stores on April 29th,” the update reads.

The Droid Incredible by Verizon Wireless

Shown right, the HTC Incredible offers a 3.7″ AMOLED display with a WVGA resolution of 480×800. Dimensions for the phone are 4.63″ tall, 2.3″ wide and 0.47″ thick, smaller than the Nexus One in all dimensions save thickness, where it’s 0.02″ beefier.

On the subject of hardware, the Incredible continues to deliver with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650, 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM (320MB free), 8GB onboard storage and a microSDHC slot for up to 32GB of additional space. The handset also offers 802.11b/g/n (an industry first), an 8MP camera with LED flash, A-GPS and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Trackball haters will also be pleased to learn that the trackpad is optical.

Moving to software, the Incredible will hit the shelves with the complete Android 2.1 application stack and unfettered access to the Android app store. Further, prior videos of the Incredible have confirmed that the handset will run the newest version of HTC’s lauded Sense UI. The move to include Sense forces HTC and Verizon to drop the “Google Experience” honorific, but that’s an immaterial decision given the drastic improvements Sense makes to an otherwise bog standard Android install. As a final note on the software, Adobe Flash Lite 4.0 is supported out of the box, while Adobe Flash 10.1 should follow when the binaries exit beta.

The Incredible will be available for $199 after $100 MIR and two-year contract with Verizon Wireless beginning April 29.
