According to a report from X-bit labs, AMD’s upcoming hexa core Phenom II X6 CPUs will launch with a technology known for now as “C-state performance boost.” The technology is said to mimic Intel’s Turbo Boost technology by dynamically overclocking the Phenom II X6’s cores within the limits of the chip’s TDP.
Sources told the site that the dynamic clocking functionality comes in response to the dearth of software that’s aware of two cores, much less the six offered by AMD’s Thuban architecture. By disabling idle engines and overclocking the remaining cores, the X6 can more quickly process single-threaded workloads.
A trio of Phenom II X6 CPUs, including the 1075T, 1055T and 1035T, will be available starting in May for an undisclosed sum.
