PlayStation Vita U.S release date

The Sony PlayStation Vita will be released in Japan later this year. North America, Australia, Latin America, and Europe will be able to get their hands on the new system shortly after. Sony just confirmed that the Sony PlayStation Vita will be released on February 22, 2012.

We got our hands on a PlayStation Vita earlier this year (read our impressions about the Vita here). I personally cannot wait for the Vita to come out—and plan on getting the Japanese Vita cause I am such a fan boy. Do you plan on getting one? What is your impression of it? Is the PlayStation Vita going to do better than the Nintendo 3DS?

Heck, even -I- want this over a 3DS right now. And I don't even much care for Sony.
19 Oct 2011 ~ 11:59am Cliff_Forster I'm not that familiar with the Sony handhelds, but my impression of them is that they try to be a console in your pocket, in other words, it just does not feel like it offers an experience that is that unique from the console (if that makes any sense?)

I like the DS because it offers me an experience that feels like it was always intended to be portable, instead of trying to get full blown console games to fit on a 4" screen. Even the console titles that Nintendo does adapt, Zelda or Mario Kart for example, they all feel like unique experiences on the DS, vs. just trying to get the console game playable in a portable format.

Being fair, I have never owned a Sony portable, I'm just sharing what impression I have had that has kept me away from them in the past.

Yeah, I was just doing some reading on it, it actually looks really intriguing from a hardware standpoint, it certainly has potential. I'm just not sure if there is a game in the launch lineup that does it for me personally but I'm still intrigued. This appears to be a really flexible piece of portable hardware in comparison to the PSP. It looks like it could deliver just about any type of portable experience that a developer can dream of.

I think there is still room for dedicated hand held gaming platforms. The current high end phones are impressive, but the limits of the controls and the fact that my phone battery is too valuable to waste on gaming keeps me interested in what Nintendo and Sony are doing. I've yet to go next gen, my old DS Lite is still useful to me for the little I use it, but I'll be giving Vita a look when it comes along.

If there isn't a data plan all the companies would be loosing money.
