PS3 firmware 3.15 now available

Sony has announced today that it has begun deployment of firmware version 3.15 for the company’s popular PlayStation 3 console.

The new firmware gives users the ability to play PSP Minis–downloadable titles originally developed for the PSP–on their PS3, as well as the ability to transfer content between consoles.

Minis launched were launched this fall in conjunction with the PSPgo, and will be available for both the PS3 and the PSPgo from here on. Customers who have already purchased mini titles can redownload them from the PlayStation Store, while new titles will arrive in the coming weeks.

On the data transfer front, the new console transfer functionality allows users to transfer video, games and save states between two consoles with a network cable. Though DRM-free material like pictures, videos and music will be retained on both consoles, saved games and anything downloaded from the PlayStation store will be deleted from the original console when the transfer is finished. Additional details about the data transfer feature will be available once version 3.15 is live.

Firmware version 3.15 can be accessed by selecting System Update under the Settings header in the PS3 XMB.
