XDR, or eXtreme Data Rate Random Access Memory, was created by RAMBUS as the successor to the ill-fated RDRAM, without the heinous latency penalties. It boasts an octal data rate, and comes in 400, 600 and 800MHz iterations with 1066 planned in the future. XDR will primarily be designed for video cards or embedded systems, as we’re pretty sure nobody will ever let RAMBUS on their motherboard ever again.
Qimonda has decided to manufacture a few chips to see how ye olde RAM works in application.
