Repair Box: parts for damaged video game consoles

Hyperkin retro gaming

To fully understand and appreciate the gaming lifestyle to its fullest, you have to understand its roots—which is why Icrontic is no stranger to retro titles and consoles. Alas, old consoles come with their risks of failure, but today Hyperkin announced a way to make going retro a little more approachable. They’ve launched a new brand called “Repair Box” that provides replacement parts for damaged video game consoles. The first Repair Box item being released is the SNES PowerJack, which provides a replacement piece for the one of the most common problems encountered by SNES owners; the plastic housing around the system’s AC jack breaking. Until now, there has been no replacement piece readily available.

Rather than dealing with the (high) cost and inconvenience of sending out an entire SNES system for repair or trying to fix the problem with a mix of various parts, the SNES PowerJack is a cheaper, quicker solution to replacing the broken housing. It’s a great product for a relatively familiar problem SNES lovers have had to deal with in a variety of ways.

A quick listing of the features:

  • Fully Pre-assembled Plastic Housing
  • Hyperkin “Gamers Guarantee” (6 month warranty)
  • MSRP: $12.99

Please note, a soldering iron/gun is not included with the kit, which will be necessary for any repair.

Hyperkin mentioned that they will be adding more console repair parts in the coming months and are presumably aiming to be the best resource for console replacement components in North America.

Bandrik This is actually a fantastic idea. I'm glad Hyperkin is around and doing this. I love my SNES, and would definitely keep them in mind if something on it goes out.

Hell, that SNES PowerJack is exactly what a friend of mine could use, as his AC jack broke (it's been ghetto-rigged with electrical tape and works... most of the time).

    Nice find, Kenkel.

drasnor Also not included in the kit is skill at using a soldering iron. Practice on RadioShack parts first!

Howdy, Stranger!
