Rock Band coming to Cedar Point – Live!

Rock Band Cedar Point Live Tour!

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a member of an all-star rock band, touring the countryside and going on stage live for your millions of fans? Yeah—probably not, but there’s still a niche for rock star wannabes through the Rock Band games—and you very well may get your chance to perform on stage.

Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (of Cedar Point fame) and MTV Games have teamed up to put on a summer-long Rock Band experience, touted as “Rock Band, Live”. A tour bus will travel to nine of Cedar Fair’s parks, including Canada’s Wonderland near Toronto, as well as the world-famous Cedar Point theme park in Sandusky, Ohio. Park guests will have the opportunity to play Rock Band, including the guitar, bass, and drums gaming accessories. Those talented few who achieve the highest scores will be invited to play live on stage along with talented singers from across North America – using the Rock Band instruments, of course.

“We’re extremely excited to merge the popular Rock Band video game with a unique, interactive live show for our guests this summer,” said Jack Falfas, chief operating officer for Cedar Fair. “Rock Band is a pop culture phenomenon and we know families have enjoyed playing the game together at home. But now it’s time for them to take it to the next level – on stage at one of our parks in front of a live audience.”

Christina Glorioso, vice president of marketing partnerships for MTV Games adds, “We are very excited for Rock Band to contribute to the fun at Cedar Fair parks this summer. Music fans of all ages will have an opportunity to either rock out themselves or sit back and enjoy watching other park-goers transform into rock stars on stage!”

The “Rock Band, Live” tour will launch Memorial Day weekend (May 31st) at Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania. From there it will travel to Cedar Fair’s other various parks throughout the summer, with the shows in Canada’s Wonderland and Cedar Point kicking off in May and June, respectively.

Come for the coasters, stay for the music—for who knows? Perhaps it will be you on stage, rocking it hard for all to see.

5 Mar 2010 ~ 9:48am Cliff_Forster One of my great regrets in life is not rideing the coasters at Cedar Point. I rode past on my way to Detroit for Epic and thought, "I could totally stop there", but then realized I just did not have the time to really enjoy it.

5 Mar 2010 ~ 10:51am AlexDeGruven It's not really THAT expensive. In most cases, you could do a day trip, so it's only gas. Also, I think you can get a group rate for as few as 8 people (can't remember the specifics on that one).

Besides coasters, they also have a giant arcade game room, with everything from the newer games to ancient vintage arcade games from the 40's or older - a real blast to the past.

As long as you budget well when going to Cedar Point, it really is do-able. Never get a hotel in Sandusky itself, they're all over-priced. Get something 20 miles or more out of town, or just drive in for the day and drive out. Consider packing lunch, as they also get you with their expensive food prices. Other than frugal spending, the entrance fee is reasonable, and group rates help even more.

Yeah, I'm a complete coaster nut, but I have never done it. If there is room for an official ICCP event, I think I could make a weekend trip for it.

I love Cedar Point, and currently, as staff at a television studio, I can acquire free tickets to the park.

I don't know how many tickets though. Kings Island, I can get up to four freebies. Cedar Parks owns KI, so it is probably the same in Sandusky.

Too bad I've only got two months left. Hindsight is 20/20, eh?

7 Mar 2010 ~ 8:28pm ardichoke Another way to make a cheap weekend/multi-day trip out of it is to rent a campsite. There's quite a few campgrounds near the Point (or so I've heard) and most of them are quite reasonable. I would totally be down for ICCP, I LOVES me some roller coasters and I didn't get to go to LWCP last summer as it was on a Sunday when I had to work

I need me some Mean Streak. I haven't ridden that one is far too long.

FINALLY, someone who agrees with me! Most people think I'm crazy when I say that I love the Mean Streak. There's just something so fun about riding an insanely big and fast wooden roller coaster though.

I prefer old school wood coasters. The Wildcat in Hershey is probably my favorite ride to date, but I have a feeling a couple of the coasters at Cedar Point might outdo even that.
8 Mar 2010 ~ 1:19pm Bandrik I'm happy to say that I think that most of the coasters at Cedar Point have their unique charms that make them all enjoyable. The only one that I passionately dislike is the Mantis - the standing up bit is very uncomfortable to me, so I now pass on that one. Here's some that I particularly enjoy:

Raptor: My personal favorite. I love all the loops that just join together smoothly.
Gemini: One of the shortest lines for such a classic coaster. And you even get to race!
Millennium Force: Not the fastest anymore, but it's still plenty fast and long enough to actually enjoy it.
Mean Streak: Careful not to hurt your neck, this one really does have a mean streak. But it is a lot of fun.
???: Not a coaster and I forget the name of this one, but it's basically a giant top that swings back and forth while spinning. Tons of fun and everyone screams once as it starts to swing to its highest point.

Cedar Point: Me want. Me want NOW.

If you like old school wooden coasters, you should check out The Beast (opened in 1979, longest roller coaster in the US and the longest wooden roller coaster in the world) and Son of Beast (opened in 2000, world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster, second longest wooden coaster) at King's Island, assuming you haven't already.

Ahh, The Beast. I've been to King's Island once. That was still the hot new coaster at the time, and I loved every minute of it.

8 Mar 2010 ~ 1:50pm Colgere They took the loop out so they could go to lighter trains. The loop itself wasn't the issue, though I don't remember off-hand what the issue was. There's been talk of putting the loop back in, if they could find a way to do it without having to use a much heavier train.

Have not been to King's Island either I am afraid.

I've mostly been restricted to the mid Atlantic, which has some decent coaster parks, but nothing like Cedar Park or King's Island is known for.

Ive ridden everything at Hershey, Six Flags America, Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion VA, various rides at Disney.

I really like Hershey for the rides, but I highly recommend Busch Gardens for a great theme park experience in a whole. Still, Cedar Point and King's Island are high on my to do lists as a coaster nut.

I have checked out "The Beast", but I have to say I wasn't impressed. Because I have since seen a true beast. A beast so frightening that it made the coaster seem like a trip down the Kiddy Train Express.

I present to you, Beast. So terrifying, there doesn't even need to be the word "the" before it. Beast will eat your children. And your soul. Not necessarily in that order.

8 Mar 2010 ~ 3:52pm UPSLynx hahahaha the beast. Was just commenting today to Branson (Branmyson) about how the Beast had gotten to fat and friendly for her own good.

My top 3 wooden coasters - Beast, Mean Streak, and Viper (six flags Great America). I've been to Kings Island on cold October days and ridden all coasters at least twice, and hit a record 12 rides on the Beast. No kidding. We got off, walked around, got right back on. It was so good.

I haven't ridden a coaster yet that I didn't like... I've never ridden Top Thrill Dragster, as I understand I am too tall to fit in it. There are a few others I've been too tall for as well. You get used to disappointment when you are 6 foot 7.

Mantis made me black out once. It was odd, as I've been on it multiple times without issue. I guess I was just in the right seat of the right car, but I was out for about 15 seconds.

I'm 6'5" and I didn't have a problem riding it. Did you actually try to get in, or were you working from hearsay?

This for me with Wicked Twister. Definitely going to work to trim down a bit before I head to CP again. I want to be able to comfortably ride whatever I want to, and WT is one I hate to miss.
8 Mar 2010 ~ 4:17pm Bandrik In Prime's defense, I distinctively remember the Millennium Force's bucket seats being terribly small. They probably have to turn away a good deal of people because of that.
8 Mar 2010 ~ 4:45pm ardichoke According to their site, anyone over 6'2" should have problems with the coasters at Cedar Point. I'm 6'4" though and have never had a problem (height related anyway). I was baaarely able to squeeze into the Top Thrill Dragster harness. That was due to girth and not height though. Still, fun ride.

Has anyone else here ridden Shivering Timbers and been horribly disappointed? I mean, it may be taller and faster than Mean Streak, but it's just so terribly vanilla, I rode it once then headed to the water park for the rest of my day at Michigan Adventure.
