Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games announced this week that the Rock Band Network Beta is now open to the public.
Artists can now begin submitting their music to the program, where it will be tested and polished before appearing in the Rock Band Network Music Store. Once a song has hit the store, the public will be able to purchase and play through the track themselves.
Paul DeGooyer, SVP of Electronic Games and Music for MTV Networks Music Group remarked that, “The Rock Band Network opens the Rock Band universe to musicians at any stage of their career, empowering them to release the songs they choose, on their timetable, via our proven music distribution platform.”
Musicians will be able to choose from several pricing tiers and will receive 30% royalties on each sale. Songs will have to be submitted through creators.rockband.com for peer review and playtesting before they can proceed to the actual store. This not only gives musicians a chance to get their song extensively reviewed, but it also give fans that volunteer to test a chance to freely play new tunes and have a hand in a song’s final form.
