The Intel rumor mill is in high gear, and an industry insider tipped us off to a very likely November 14th launch date for Intel’s highly anticipated follow-up to their flagship Sandy Bridge CPU family. What we know so far:
- Socket 2011
- PCIe Gen 3 or Gen 2 depending on motherboard maker (CPU supports PCIe 3)
- No native USB 3
- Native SATA6
- 4 or 8 DIMM slots per board
- 3 models at launch: 3960X, 3930K and 3820, with the X and K being unlocked
- 130W TDP
We’ve also got some info on possible pricing, with the top-end 3960X at a premium $999, the 3930K coming in at $583, and the 3820 at $294. Clock speeds are expected to be as follows:
3820 = 3.6GHz/3.9 turbo, 3930k = 3.2GHz/3.8 turbo, 3960x = 3.3/3.9. Cache levels will be 10, 12 and 15MB L3 respectively. The X79 chipset will require a new HSF mounting kit over LGA-1366. Motherboard manufacturer ECS teased some photos of their X79R-AX series, showing the new socket in action.
