HKEPC is reporting that some new Phenom IIs with 7/8MB of total cache are on the way. There are two such chips in the pipeline, and they are reported to be:
- Phenom II X4 955 (Deneb Core): 3.2GHz, 8MB cache
- Phenom II X2 545 (Callisto core): 3.0GHz, 7MB cache
We’re not really sure what this will do for the Phenom II, since its architectural shortcomings are not cache-based, but bigger is better, right?
Correction: We initially referred to the cache quantities as “L3 cache,” but the values instead refer to the combined quantity of all three levels.
