[Rumor] Sprint Hero goes Android 2.1 on April 9

   It mentions there is an update for the HTC Hero on April 9th, but it doesn't mention the Samsung Moment. Wouldn't Sprint be releasing the updates for both phones in tandem? The lack of the Samsung Moment being mentioned (especially given it doesn't use Sense UI, so it should be ready before the HTC Hero), really has me worried. I've read elsewhere that this is just an update patch to fix an MMS issue.

   26 Mar 2010 ~ 11:40am Thrax Why would Sprint release updates for both phones in tandem? Android updates are qualified first by the manufacturer, and second by the carrier. Samsung hasn't shown any real motivation to update its handsets like Motorola and HTC has.

I don't know, it could be because I've read numerous reports that Sprint is prepping to release the updates to Android 2.1 for both the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment in April. Sure, it's all a bunch of rumors, but so is your article, technically. There's no concrete evidence to suggest that the picture you've linked from Phandroid is in fact regarding the Android 2.1 update.
   
   Oh, and I am fully aware of Samsung's reluctance to update the firmware after the point of sale. The one thing that the Samsung Moment has going for it that the HTC Hero doesn't is that it's running, basically, a vanilla version of Android 1.5. It has no skinning barriers to cross such as Sense UI, that the HTC Hero has. That should make it relatively easy for Samsung to certify an update to Android 2.1, if it ever gets around to it.

   26 Mar 2010 ~ 11:32pm Simon Belmont Just to clarify, you're probably right about Sprint not releasing the Android 2.1 update in tandem. That would likely be a fairly large drain on Sprint's network resources, especially if it was an OTA update.
   
   I do believe that I've read that Sprint won't allow an OTA update that exceeds 10MB in size. This is, in part, due to Sprint's alleged policy that any update patch larger than 10MB would likely tie up the handset for too long of a time and thus render it useless in an emergency situation. Anyway, I'm sorry for getting rough in my wording in my last post. I guess I'm just tired of waiting for the 2.1 update, like everyone else who owns an HTC Hero or Samsung Moment.

   27 Mar 2010 ~ 6:36am Snarkasm There's pretty good circumstantial evidence for HTC releasing a 2.1 update to the Hero series on the 9th - that's also when the HTC Desire comes out, which will already be running 2.1 and the new Sense.
   
   It's pretty flimsy, but I could definitely see it getting timed simultaneously to keep the Hero users happy so they don't feel like they're getting the short end of the stick like Cliq or G1 owners.
