Rumor: Three versions of Windows 7

windows-logoEmil Protalinski at ArsTechnica has done some digging on what we might expect in the way of Windows 7 versions. While this all remains unsubstantiated, he’s convinced that we’ll see just three versions of Windows 7 and the return of the Professional edition.

These are not confirmed, but I am told they are what Microsoft is currently considering:

  • Windows Vista Home Premium Edition => Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
  • Windows Vista Business Edition => Windows 7 Professional Edition
  • Windows Vista Ultimate Edition => Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

I believe everyone will agree that this is much better than the ridiculous tangle of editions for Vista. I think we can also agree that Ultimate better be more ultimate than Vista’s cruel excuse.

MiracleManS While this is all well and good, I'd like to know what separates them as far as version. I don't want another Vista stupidity that's like "Home does this and this but nothing else".

Make it clear cut like XP was.

pragtastic I'm sure Home will be non-domain friendly like previous versions, so all the new college kiddos will have to upgrade their license on their brand new computer.

(this was the root cause of so many problems as a college tech support)

Snarkasm What was so bad about Ultimate, besides the Ultimate Extras that never quite materialized? Texas Hold 'Em... :snicker:

DrLiam Windows 7 Gamer Premium Edition, PLOX!
  5. Komete
Komete 3 would be better than 6. Bout all I can say about that. I do like my vista though. But then again, I did a good bit of tweaking when I fist got it. I have the home premium. Whatever the premium is, I have no idea.

Howdy, Stranger!
