Rumors on Intel’s Pineview, Atom successor

intelToday’s juicy rumor is that Pineview, the successor to Intel’s wildly popular Atom CPU, is in the cards for a 4Q09 release.

Paired with a new chipset called Pine Trail-M, Pineview shrinks the Atom’s 2174mm square footprint to just 773mm square. The new chip features no clockspeed increases, but does arrive with a smaller thermal envelope which should allow for better battery life.

On the chipset front: The Pine Trail-M boosts the clockspeed of the GMA 950 IGP, bumps the memory speed to DDR2-667, and should be even cheaper to own.

edcentric Will this replace all of the Atom line? What about the 330? Or will this just be for the Z and N variants.

A few months ago Intel said that the netbook market was not of interest to them.......

Thrax No word, but I suspect it will replace the entire Atom line. It's cheaper for them to make, so it stands to reason that they'd just go ahead and supplant the Atom after the stock is gone.

DrLiam Pineview? That's an interesting name for the new chips. Great to hear they will reduce their footprint and add battery life.
