SandForce-based “Vertex LE” tips up

While SSD fans have been aflutter over the remarkable performance of OCZ’s upcoming Vertex 2 Pro, it is alleged that those drives will first be preceded by another SandForce-based drive: The Vertex LE.

Featuring 270MBps/250MBps peak read/write, the 100GB OCZSSD2-1VTXLE100G is easily one of the fastest SSDs around. Aside from its standard 2.5″ form factor, ATA TRIM support, €399 MSRP and rumors suggesting 50K IOPS with 4K blocks, little else is known about the drive.

Whatever truths really lie behind the early glimpse will soon be revealed, as the drive should launch on or around February 5.

BuddyJ I hear those SandForce controllers use black magic and unicorn farts to compress the data. Is it true that it uses wild RAID hackery and science?
  2. Thrax
Thrax Rumor has it that SandForce controllers replace all the cache with trinary quantum pockets in the 9th dimension, use 421-stripe I/O and run the controller at 4.6GHz to perform 96:1 compression. They're also made of diamond and stardust.
  3. Snarkasm
Snarkasm Too bad they can't match up to the iPad's performance.

Can you play WoW on them, at least?
