Recently SEGA has announced the latest Sonic the Hedgehog game, dubbed Sonic Colors. The game will feature our fearless blue hedgehog as he continues his fight against the evil Dr. Eggman on both the Wii and Nintendo DS.
The new theme SEGA has for us in Sonic Colors is a fantastic amusement park, consisting of several stylized planetoids that orbit Sonic’s home world. Dr. Eggman has captured and enslaved a colorful race of alien beings known as “Wisps”, who each needs Sonic’s help to be freed once more.
The Wii version will combine both 3D and retro 2D game play perspectives, while the NDS edition will take advantage of the dual-screen setup. Each level you go through is a planetoid, all part of the sci-fi amusement park. Each has its own visual style to go along with anti-hedgehog traps and baddies.
The new gimmick that Sonic receives in Sonic Colors comes from the Wisps themselves. In return for being rescued, each Wisp will bestow upon Sonic a color-themed “Color Power” special ability. Some example abilities are the “Yellow Drill” that allows Sonic to clear a path straight into the ground, while another known as the “Cyan Laser” lets Sonic go far beyond the speed of sound and turn into a beam of laser light. Further power-ups can be chained together, and along with a “boost gauge”.
With two unique experiences between the Wii and NDS versions of the game, Sonic Colors should be a treat for Sonic fans. Look for it this holiday season, later in 2010.
