Shank 2, successor to Klei Entertainment’s brutal 2D brawler Shank, will be hitting the shelves starting February 7th.
The original Shank was a fantastic blend of visceral 2D beat-em up gaming set in a gritty pulp fiction world with stunning comic book visuals, and it left the bar high for any sequel. That said, there was certainly room for improvement, especially with the frequently frustrating gunplay or platforming sections. But Klei appear to have taken that onboard when developing the sequel and are promising more precise controls on top of new weapons, smarter enemies and more advanced combos to really test veteran gamers. Also new in Shank 2 is a cooperative survival game mode, allowing two local or online players to duke it out against never-ending waves of enemies.
At this stage Shank 2 is looking very promising—should it manage to maintain the original’s gorgeous visuals as well as improve on the flaws this could easily be one of the best games to make it out in 2012 and is well worth keeping an eye on.
Shank 2 will set you back $9.99 (or 800 MS points) and is due to launch on PC and PSN North America February 7th but won’t make it to the Xbox Live Arcade or European Playstation owners until the 8th.
