When people try out Shattered Horizon, their initial reaction is usually “This is really different”. Then, the next thing out of their mouth is generally “What? Only one gun?”
Futuremark is going to be remedying that problem with their upcoming DLC “Firepower”, a free add-on to the three-dimensional FPS.
Firepower will be bringing new weapons and grenades to the battle, but Futuremark has declined to reveal any details yet.
Producer Jaakko Haapasalo says in a press release,
“While we are not revealing the release date or specific details just yet, players in our Arconauts program have already started helping us test and balance the new weapons.”
Firepower will be the second free DLC to be released for the game, the first being “Moonrise” which brought new maps. This strategy of staggered, free DLC which expands the game is similar to what Valve has been doing with Team Fortress 2 since 2007: release a pretty good core game that doesn’t cost much, and then slowly trickle out DLC which expands the game over time and gets new players interested in buying in. If it goes anything like Team Fortress 2, the Shattered Horizon of 2011 will look very, very different from the original release.
